Have you discovered a Lost Moth? Were you brought here via a website link attached to the back of your Lost Moth?  

 

You have discovered one of many Lost Moths! Your moth is part of a larger art piece, a collaboration between British dance-theatre makers Thick & Tight (Daniel Hay-Gordon and Eleanor Perry) and ceramicist Sheila Hay. 

 

As part of a tour of Japan in Spring 2022, Thick & Tight are travelling the country to study the ancient art forms of Noh and Kyogen theatre. On their travels, they have left behind many ceramic brooches of Moths, each one individual in form and hand-crafted by Sheila Hay. The Lost Moths connect to a dance piece called ‘Two Moths In Real Time’, inspired by Noh, Kyogen and Nature. You can read more about this piece on this website. This project, which will eventually leave 83 brooches across Japan and the United Kingdom, recognises that 83 species of Moths have been lost in the UK in recent years, lost forever within nature. 

 

Now that your individual Lost Moth has been found, we would love for you to write to us, explain who you are and take a photo of your Moth, whether it now lives on your clothes or somewhere else you have chosen to keep it. We will then collect stories and images from all the Lost Moths and share their stories on this webpage.
