PRIMA
Margot Fonteyn (1919–1991)
Thick & Tight return to the Royal Opera House to present 'Prima', a new work about the extraordinary and much-loved ballerina Margot Fonteyn. Margot is brought to life by dancer, drag performer, filmmaker and artist Danny Smith, who embodies her sensitivity, courage, vulnerability and beauty. Drawing on research materials found in the ROH archives, 'Prima' shows Margot looking back over her long career; many years of striving to bring the magic of dance to spellbound audiences. She is accompanied by her friend, the choreographer Frederick Ashton.
Thick & Tight are interested in promoting queer culture, accessibility and anti-elitism through dance. They are delighted to be working with Danny Smith who is a proud role model for other disabled people seeking independent lives.
Costume designed by Anna Lewis and made by Albert Taylor.
